Does anybody have any special techniques or help on how to do Cornelli Lace. I think it is so pretty but I not quite sure how to go about starting to do it, I'm afraid I am going to mess up. usaribbon.gif

Thanks
Connie

Just practice, practice, practice....use a tip #3 to practice with and then go down to a #2. Make sure your icing is a good writing consistency, it just seems to flow.

Good Luck!!

Cornelli Lace... the best advice/tips are things I always make sure to do-doing these things gives me the look I like.

1) When starting make sure you are starting on an edge that will be covered with a border/decoration.
2) Don't stop in the middle of the cake stop on an edge that will be covered with a border/decoration
3) I usually try to make it one complete line-even if the means starting where I stoped.
4) Make sure you don't over lap any of your lines
5) I like my lace nice and tight so I keep all of my lines fairly close to eachother-others like them farther apart. Play with it and see what your personal preference is.
6) Don't touch your tip to the cake-let the icing fall from your tip (about 1/8" off the cake
7) DON't Stress over it. There is no pattern to Cornelli Lace. So there is no Perfect lace =))

Hope this helps a little. Can't wait to see your cakes

I've added a little piping gel to my BC before so the string doesn't break while in motion. Great tips Leily!!

Those are great tips. What is the key to doing cornelli lace on the side of a cake? TIA.

I hear people mentioning piping gel frequently. Can I find it where I buy my other decorating things? Are all of the brands pretty well the same? How much should be added per how much icing? Is it like the gel frostings that you can buy in a tube? icon_confused.gif

You definitely should be able to find piping gel with other cake decorating supplies. Wilton makes some. If you don't have any of that one hand you can add about 1 tsp of corn syrup to about 1 cup of BC. That will also help it come out smoother. My instructor did that all the time.

I use a turntable that tilts.
