I made the Colette Peters recipe for IMBC and it tasted great warm. I chilled the cake and it tasted kind of gross cold. Did I do something wrong or is it just best served at room temp?

IMBC is best served at room temperature - otherwise the butter hardens the icing and tastes yuck! I always tell people to leave the cake out for an hour for best results. Elaine

Yep... your tastebuds can't perceive sweet flavours as much at colder temps (that's why pop tastes so sweet when warm) so all you can taste is the butter in the IMBC when it's cold.
