Cake Mix Extender Question

I love the cake mix extender recipe. I know one box using this recipe fills a 9x13 pan. How many do you think it will take to make 2 12x18? I need to do a full sheet cake.

Go under recipes here a search for cake mix extender. It is used to doctor & "extende" a box mix cake. It is fabulous!! I used it last week for the first time & got 3 more orders off of the cake that day. Everyone thought it was a scratch cake & didn't believe that I had used a box mix to make it.

BellaRosa I have a question for you. Would you charge more for the extender ingredients or no because your not using as many cake mixes?? Thanks for the info. I'm going to go home tonight and try it!!! :0)
PS let me know if you get an answer on the 2 12x18 question.

Bodaisy,

If you use the extender that calls for adding flour and sugar and sour cream, you should be able to do 2 extenders for the 12 x 18 pan because it holds 3 regular mixes. Hope this helps you.

I'm going to make a 12 x 18 today using a recipe with extender for a sour cream almond white cake.

I charge $25 for my 9x13. Which includes design & delivery. Pretty regular in my area. I don't charge more for the extender recipe. I totaled the costs of using 2 basic boxed mixes versus using the extender & I think the total cost difference was around 50 cents. Not bad at all. And I didn't have the leftovers from the 2 box mixes anymore that I had to either eat or toss! lol That was the biggest plus for me...my hips are loving this recipe...if I could only quit actually wanting to eat it myself. icon_razz.gif

Ok, one quick question about the recipe - do you use 1 box mix plus the ingredients listed?

Does the result equal two box mixes??

The extender is one cake mix and you add the extender ingredients. It makes the equivalent of 1 1/2 cake mixes.

I use the box mix & instructions plus the extra ingredients. The mixture is thicker than a regular box mix & equals about 1 1/2 box mixes. That is why I don't have the leftover little cake anymore. yeah me

Sorry I have another question. My 12x18 is actually 3inches deep. Ok, now the 12x18x2 takes 14c of batter and the 12x18x3 takes 20 which i'm assuming is 4 cake mixes. SOOO my question is, would I then use 3 extender recipes or not? Sorry my brain is FRIED and It's better to ask the experts!!! Thank you soooo much :0)

I would do 3 extender recipes & that should do it for a 12x18x3. Judging by my 12x18x2, you will have some left over with just 3 mixes.

Awesome, thank you ssoooooo much!!! I did go home tonight and try the recipe out and ohh my was it yyuuuuummmyyyyy!!!! My bf was skeptical because he saw the sour cream on the counter, but after much "bribing" he tried it and loved it. He said that it tasted like "Wedding cake". I will be using this recipe from now on. So thank you again!!!
