I charge 4 dollars a dozen.....and I will give them 3 dozen for 10 dollars if they're ordering a cake too. I haven't had anyone baulk at the price....I just follow it up with they're like petit fours and people go ......ohhhhhhhh.....and then they don't question the price LOL Whatever if dunkin doughnuts can charge that for their little munchkins....then why not??? lol Mine are dipped in chocolate!!!
Wow - $4 a dozen seems sort of cheap to me.
The box alone costs me .75 - are you packaging them 'fancy'? If so, how do you make any money? Also, mine are dipped in chocolate, then drizzled and brushed with gold dust and put in little foil cups.... maybe I am way outta line....... ![]()
$4 and $9.50 per box is a big difference ~ lol...anyone else? Thanks to the OP for the question as I was wondering the same thing.
I am charging $5.00 a dozen and putting them in little cups too. I get alot of orders at this price so I am thinking of upping it a little.
You know what I am thinking when it comes to cake balls and charging--size does matter
--mine are the size of Pamered chiefs medium cookie scoop, just about 2 bites.
I use the medium cookie scoop too. I use a good quality chocolate that I dip them into also. In fact some of my clients tell me I need to up the price on them. The boxes I use are those cool decorative ones. One of my clients uses them as the display whenever she orders desserts for her shop. (except for the ones she has on permenant display near the cash register) ![]()
You have to figure out how much it costs you to make a dozen and then times that by 3 or 4. Also, to get a good finished look to these lil' buggers they do take some time--and time is $$$. Make sure you are getting paid for your work. I have a problem with pricing too low and am slowly changing that.
I charge $8 a dozen for flavors without alcohol, or $12 for those with booze. I increase the price by $2 if they are gift and need to be in fancy packaging, like a decorate take out box, etc. Normally, I put them in a white cardboard box or a small paper bag with handle (from Michael's). No one balks at my prices and I actually do a lot of these.
Welcome to CC!!! And if you have never tried a cakeball, get ready, your waist line is about to widen. ![]()

I hope no minds if I add a question about cake balls. I wanted to try making some. I've looked at the recipe here on CC and as I'm not from the USA, I don't actually know what coffee creamer is, nor how big a standard bottle of it would be. Although I can probably guess at what it is, it isn't a product that is really used here in New Zealand. Does anyone have a bottle to hand that they can look at to tell me whats in it and how big a bottle is. thanks for your time.
get ready, your waist line is about to widen. Ha! That's so true!
bejewelled--you don't have to use coffee creamer. You can use fruit or coffee syrups, liquior or anything else. Sometimes I don't even have to add anything to moisten it up because the crumbs will hold together on their own. The main thing when doing cake balls is that it should be the consistancy of wet sand.

Thanks for that, wet sand - got it, I think I would like Amaretto liquer. My little girl Poppy's fourth birthday is in a little over a week, so have a cake to do for that. So I'll give them a go.
I package my cake balls in a white bakery box...it's technically called a pie box so it's only a couple inches tall but it holds 36 cake balls perfectly. I make them the size of a normal meatball I would say....maybe like walnut sized and I put them in little mini cupcake liners......they are dipped in chocolate as well and I just send them off in the box just like that......sometimes they are drizzled with white chocolate (sometimes it's colored too)....here maybe I can find a photo of some I've done.
