I just finished, my first cake with fondant, a Debbie Brown cake, the fairy toadstool...
If anyone else has successfully done this cake, what kind of bowl did you use? I used the pampered chef mixing bowl and I think maybe the bowl is not steep enough and it threw off the shape. I had a hard time with shaping...any tips?
How thick should the fondant be? I tried to make it rather thin, but then realized with some of the adornments maybe it should be thicker.
When you add "padding" to the cake how do you make the cake blend with the padding? I could see my ball through the fondant that covered the cake.
All in all...I learned some things and didn't get TOO frustrated..I have never covered a regular cake with fondant..maybe I should have started there...of course, I am my own worst critic....
Thanks for all your help......

Make your own fondant. I would probably never experiment if I had to buy the fondant. Marshmallow fondant only cost about $2 to make. and its very easy. and Yummy.
