Question About Fondant

i've only used cookie cutter shapes to decorate w/fondant. but if i wanted to make a character out of fondant. how would i do that? is there an article that can help me? Would i make a template and cut each section around the fondant?

Are you going for the flat look? No figures? Then yes, I would say you could make a template for the figure and then cut it out. Wilton makes people cut-outs. The shirt is a separate cutter from the pants/skirt.

ty. i was thinking something like care bear face that covers the whole cake....something easy, not much detail. i noticed in the gallery how some have done dora, bratz, etc.

You could print up the size you want the image to be, then cut out the different sections. Then use those pieces as templates and the piece the fondant back together like a puzzle.

You could try a FBCT. I'm no good at those, so I tend to make things harder for myself!!

ty. i think i'll try that. do i need to use crisco to roll out the fondant, like they do in the wilton classes? i rather not, hate the taste of it.

Some people swear by powdered sugar or cornstarch when rolling it out and others, like me, use Crisco. I use MMF, so I think the Crisco does well with it.
