I volunteered, since I have not much experience and no paying customers icon_lol.gificon_cry.gif to make a cake for my church for a Palm Sunday brunch. Anyway, I need some ideas...it's not yet Easter obviously so I was going to do something else besides a cross. I have no experience yet with fondant so nothing overly elaborate. What could I do? icon_confused.gif

I'd make one of those lamb cakes and get some palm leaves from the florist to put around the base of your cake......

How about the book pan made into a Bible?

here's a simple church banner that could be adapted to a sheet cake.

All good ideas everyone and I thank you! I didn't want to have to buy another pan, however. I like the idea of trying to do the Bible, though. Good idea with the banner Doug but I'm not too good--no, I stink and have yet to have one work--with the FBCT so I don't know how I would do the lettering neatly. What about the palm fronds, just a leaf tip??

for letters do a chocolate transfer instead....each letter individually ... will be stornger and eaiser to use.

first traces edges and let set a bit then flood with melted chocolate.

ditto for fronds, but make stem and each leaf individually,

OR

cut pattern from card stock/oaktag, etc. and then cut individual pieces from rolled out fondant and lay on cake.

and yes, could just do the fronds with a wide flat tip.

You can get your lettering using the computer and pick a font ... any font. If you want it bigger than 99, use a photo program and just add text and make it as big as you need.

Yes, June, I have tried that but I can't do it at all with BC so I will try chocolate. I'd like to keep it simple in that way, using my PC fonts because I can't afford to buy anything schmancy!

I may have been unclear. I was suggesting you should use the chocolate flow in on waxed paper and get the lettering style from you handy dandy computer.

Happy decorating!

Yes, I thought that's what you meant, June....we'll see what happens. Where in NJ are you, if I may ask?

Btw, if I do the chocolate lettering, do the fonts have to be mirror image like a FBCT or normal? (I haven't done color flow but I know reverse image isn't needed).

I live outside Princeton in Hamilton, Mercer county and you?

No, you do not need to reverse the lettering as you will fill and lift so you want the nice side up.

Thank you June, I'll start looking for a good font.

I am in Warren County, near the Blairstown/Delaware Water Gap area. I keep looking for decorators in my area to no avail!
