i'm driving down from san francisco to see this show. i have friends in san diego so i figured why not check it out!
I went to the San Diego cake show, it was really neat... lots and lots of cakes, demo's too. When I download the pics I will post them here.
Sat next to and chatted with a Cake Central member and didn't even know it until she posted her pic here afterward!! 
I also was able to make it to the show...there were so many beautiful cakes! I got lots of great ideas! I would love to know who entered that is CC member so please post pictures of your entries!
ETA: aupekkle, I just realized which cake was yours! That was one of our favorites! Great job!
Thanks, Misska21! It took me a while to finish the cake and I actually had to pull an all nighter on Thursday to get it done before Friday's sign in. Grad school just isn't condusive for extra hobby time

I was quite happy that I actually met a CC member at the cake show! DiscoLady, I'm glad that I got to talk to you and I hope to see you in the competition next year! Thanks again, everyone for your wonderful comments and support on my entry.
Are any of you that live in California going to the the California Cake Camp in September?
fearlessbaker - can't go to cake camp because I don't have the funds to go to it

It'll be in Las Vegas and they have many great people there giving serminars, demos, etc.
meghan89 - Thanks and smoothing out that puppy took a long time! DH kept asking "Aren't you done smoothing that one yet?" I guess patience pays off
