Ideas For Sister's Cake. Modern Nyc Type
Decorating By Susecita Updated 22 Mar 2006 , 9:12pm by SHenyd
She is a fashionable architect major chickie...unlike her sister who is more the hippy type (that's me!) Usually I would spend some time giving thought to her cake but she is arriving here from NYC to visit and celebrate her birthday. I have about a million things to do today, including two more cakes. I will virtually will have about 45 minutes to decorate her cake so I can hide it before she gets here as we will eat it tomorrow at my boyfriend's parents. Here is what I was thinking: purchase some black wilton frosting decorate all black with multicolored dots all over. Because I had enough batter for two layers I was going to cut out her name in Fondant and put it on the border of the second layer and then cut out her age (24) and top the cake with it. How does that sound? Any other suggestions? Any ideas on how to pipe quick multicolored dots without spending a million dollars and having to mix a million times? I was thinking of buying the wilton gum that comes in those little bottles and have a glassy look. I can't even remember the name now! Any other suggestions are welcomeeeed.
Thanks!

Try a Dooney purse, it is a very nice and expensive brand she might be familiar with. There is one on my pictures but if you look on the internet you will find a real one and try to copy it, I didn't have markers to do the letters it is supposed to have so I used fondant.
I hate to go against what you invisioned ... but the multi colored dots just don't fit in with my vision of a NY architect... ofcourse you know your sister better than me .... what about a tiffany box or colored cake .... In my mind I see this as more of an architect style .... and it would be alot simpler ![]()

If you don't want to mix a lot of colors, how about just white dots. Black and white always look elegant. Or maybe white scrolls on the black background.
As soon as I read the title of this post I immediately thought of Lovin Sullivan cakes. Take a look at her website. She has some really cool modern cakes!

There are buildings built in a wedding cake style. A cool cake would be to do a stacked cake and have it give the impression of a building by putting rectangles even spaced all over it to resemble windows.
Sounds like a fun cake to design!
