I was wondering if corn starch absorbs into fondant like it does when you smooth bc with it. I have been dusting my mat with ps for fondant, but always have to "wash" it down with water to get rid of the ps.

I think you have to dust off any extra as fondant does not soak it up. You have to kneed the fondant to get it to mix in completely.

Corn starch is a drying agent, so too much of it can really compromise your fondant leading to elephant skin, cracking, etc.

You can avoid the need for CS or PS by rolling the fondant out on a mat (silicone or vinyl) conditioned with a very little Crisco--no white steaks, no need to dust it off, etc.
