I just bought this micro size bottle of lemon oil. I want to use it to flavor an all crisco buttercream lemon flavored. How much oil do I use? How much icing do I use with the oil? I know it should be just a little bit but do you just go with drops? What do you use to drop such a small amount of liquid? If I use the oil, do I need to use lemon juice as well? I am only using the lemon buttercream for filling the cake not icing the whole thing with it so I kinda want it a bit strong so it is definitely noticable that it is lemon flavored buttercream.
If you have a "eye" dropper, use just a couple of drops. Mix and taste and add more if necessary. If you have a 1/8 tsp or so use that. Mix and taste again. All it takes is a few drops. I bought a dropper when I bought my oils and I have used my teaspoon. Be careful since you said it is just for the filling. The lemon juice may make it too watery unless you are going to use that inplace of the water/milk--start out with small amounts. A cup or so for the filling??? I don't know how much or thick you are making your filling. But remember that the oils are strong. OH YEA, you can add a bit of lemon zest to really make a strong lemon flavor, just use on the coarse side of your grading or micoplane.
