Okay, I just made a batch for the first time. Is it supposed to be REALLY stiff? I do not have a KitchenAid mixer, so I had to mix it by hand and coudn't get a full two pounds of the powdered sugar incorporated into it.

...that recipe should be re-done....ya dont use all the powdered sugar...its too much....if its too hard right now, pop it in the microwave to soften it up....keep adding crisco.... thumbs_up.gif

I never use all the sugar either. I mix mine by hand so I can get a feel for the consistancy and dont' take it too far. I sift in sugar a little at a time untill the consistancy is like soft playdoh. Then wrap tightly in greased plastic wrap and let it set overnight on the counter.

...I use mine right away if need be....
I know some people let it set overnight, but I have never had a problem doing it either way. thumbs_up.gif

I think the ecipe is meant to be used a guide so to speak. I sometimes do mine by hand, sometimes in my KA. Either way, I add only as much Powdered Sugar as needed for the right consistency
If it alread too stiff now, just try adding crisco a little at a time and knead until it feels like reg. fondant or play-doh as DianaMarieMTV said. To me, it's jkind of hard to mess up MMF can you can always add more water, crisco or sugar depending on what the problem is. Good Luck and don't give up on MMF, it's great!

...if its too hard, then yes, put it in the micro for a few seconds...adding crisco can't hurt it...adding water may make it more sticky.... thumbs_up.gif

I just made some for the first time last night too. My question is, should it not be sticky at all? It wasn't terribly sticky but just a little.

...a little is ok....but when ya can't hardly handle the stuff, then no. I've had some turn out too sticky...had to add lots'o'crisco and then rolled it out with cornstarch(which I usually dont do)
I only roll out the white stuff with cornstarch....if I have colored mmf, I usually just use crisco. thumbs_up.gif

i was going to make a new thread about this but since there's one up. don't mind if i join in icon_biggrin.gif.
i have a weird problem kind of. i actually just finished making a batch of mmf and it turned out good. im not sure if what i did shouldn't have been done but instead of water, i used lemon juice. and while the marshmallows were melting, i added shortening. but i forgot the flavouring but yet my batch turned out good. how did that happen? its resting on my countertop right now, is there a way that i could add the flavourings after?

I'm leery about adding extracts when it is done. You could, however, use Lorann oils for flavoring. HTH.

Hmmmm....dunno about adding flavoring after...I dont think it could hurt anything...if I forgot, I think I would probably try and add it after, just to see if it worked or not thumbs_up.gif

Okay...I checked out the MMF recipe and there is no mention of adding extract...am I missing something? There was a not at the bottom that stated you "can add 2 oz. melted candy melts". I plan to make some tomorrow and want to be sure about the extract before starting.

Thanks!!!

I am still trying to get the right mixture down for MMF. I have some that I made 2 weeks ago. How long can you keep MMF if you have wrapped it up and put it in a ziploc?

And simple affair there is a recipe for Rhonda's MMF where you can add lemon extract.

MMF lasts up to 4 months...I have kept mine for up to 6 and it was just fine...I only used it for accents, not to cover a whole cake.
