I am making just a practice cake but I want it to a beach themed wedding cake and I don't know how to make the shells. I live near the beach so I was going to create molds from gumpaste from real shells. What do all of you do that don't live near the beach?? Just looking for an easier way really icon_rolleyes.gificon_smile.gificon_cool.gif

I bought shells molds since they are so cheap-usually under $2. Made them with white chocolate flavored candy melts and used petal and luster dusts to color since I was going for a more realistic look. icon_smile.gif

My Godmother's wedding cake was a beach theme with shells. The bakery made the shells out of chocolate.

You can make your own silicone molds with real seashells and silicone plastique. I prefer gumpaste shells and dusts but have also done some I liked in white chocolate as well. There are some sites that have wonderful shell molds if you should decide to go that way.

There is a picture of a cake using white chocolate shells in my gallery.
All the shells except for the big one are made of white chocolate. I formed the large shell with fondant over a serving dish. I used lots of luster dust in various colors.

I made the sea urchin shell in this picture using a stryofoam ball. No mold needed. I just cut it into the shape of the urchin and covered it in GP. I then took a rough sponge and added some texture. After that I added RI bumps, and dusted with petal dust. The other shells in the picture are made from chocolate molds.

I also make some amazing coral with white chocolate poured over curshed ice.
