dense enough to use in the sports ball and wonder mold pans? My DM has asked me to do a basketball cake to take to work, but it has to be carrot cake. I wanted to do something different by inverting the wonder mold and placing the sports ball on top of it to look like it is going thru the hoop. Will carrot cake be sturdy enough? If not, how could I make it dense?

TIA,
Beth

I actually just made this carrot cake recipe: http://forum.cakecentral.com/cake_recipe-221-Carrot-Pineapple-Cake-III.html and it is hearty and dense cake. I was able to carve it into the shape of a guitar without it breaking and crumbling everywhere. Now it is not a "wet" moist cake which I am used to with all my other cakes so when I tasted it it seemed dry to me, but my husband said it was fine--just dense and hearty. I don't like carrot cakes so I always try to find a recipe that everyone likes. Hopefully my friend will like this one. But for me not liking carrot cakes--it actually tasted pretty good. icon_redface.gificon_biggrin.gif The only thing that bothered me was that I did have to make a double batch to cook in a 11 x 15. The edges and the center were raised nicely--just the everything else in between sunk a little. Just odd. My concern I guess would be cooking it in the wondermold pan--I think the sports ball would be fine.

The Cake Mix Doctor has a carrot cake recipe, if you use mixes it may work well. If you want the recipe PM me.

I'm sure it would be. I've used both of those pans with several different box mix cakes and they all worked fine. I did exchange the water for milk, butter rather then oil and used 4 rather then 3 eggs. Other then that I made it just like the box says and they worked great.
