I've been looking for a store that carries all the lace mats, embossing tools, etc. in Canada for a long time, and so far the only places I found are Michael's and another store in another city. I'd like to know if there is a good mail-order store in Canada or a good store in Vancouver area. I know there are a lot in the U.S., but the last time I ordered something from U.S (a USB key for my husband), I actually ended up paying an extra of $100 something (almost same price as the product I ordered) for customs-related expense. Anyone in Canada ever ordered cake supplies from U.S before? Thanks a great deal for your reply in advance~ icon_smile.gif

I order alot of stuff from the US and I live in Calgary,Alberta...You really have to know the prices of things and determine wheter it is worth it or a good deal.I find Ebay to be the best source but they don't always have specific items and you run the chance of another person bidding against you.I find it is usually the shipping that is so expensive as most US companies consider us International...If it is something you really want then I would buy it.The CAD is really good right now for exchange but customs can make it really expensive if the items are over $20.00 value.Another source I learned is have the items sent UPS by Air and not Ground...air doesn't go through customs, ground may cost you a bit more to ship UPS but you will save on the customs fees.UPS guy told me that!!
You could also inquire on this site or others if anyone is willing to have the items shipped to them in the US and then have them forward it to you and you pay them.I have done that quite a few times and that has saved me alot.I then pay that person with Paypal or send a Moneyorder. Most people on theses boards are very helpful and willing to do it for you.I just had some CK Product (countrykitchens) sent to me by a lady on another site.It cost me $7.00 shipping from her.Better than $20.00

Hi. I live in norway and have the same problem like you. Here they take 24 % taxes of the idems cost if we order for more than 200nkr = 26 dollars.
How can someone think to order small orders all the time. I hate that stuff the goverment do.
Best of luck to you finding something in canada.

Hellow fellow Canadians!!
I'm in Ontarion and I buy my supplies from Bulk Barn and Michaels.
There's 2 good stores up in Mississauga, Ontario - McCalls's Cake Shop and Golda's Kitchen.
Golda's Kitchen has a good online ordering catalogue. They carry a lot of Wilton products and other brands as well and they charge in Canadian $$
The website is:

Hope that helps! icon_smile.gif

Thank you all for the information.

Purple Petunia, I will check out the website, thank you so much.

Kiddiekakes, I didn't know anything about the customs-related fee, I thought I got ripped off! Now I know, I am not supposed to order anything over $20 directly from the merchant in U.S. My sister in law is chicago, so I guess I can get some help from her. Thank you for the great tip!
