I tried to bake a cake with the Wilton Large Egg Pan. I baked it at 350 for 40 minutes and it was still not cooked in the center, I let it go another 30 minutes and it finally was cooked but the edges were crisp and pulled away from the side of the pan. Has anyone had experience with this pan?

I had that happen with the football pan. We should probably put a core in it to bake more evenly. HOpefully we will get more advice on this.

I haven't used either one of those pans but I've seen them. They're really deep in the center and that's why they're baking so slowly there.

The heating core is a good idea. Use a flower nail in the bottom instead though because heating cores are annoying.

Thanks LaSombra. I thought about that but thought it would be too deep. Not so?

Well, the top of the nail won't poke out the top or anything but at least there will be more heat up in there...

I have only cooked in the football pan and didn't have any issues with it. I did use a flower nail and cooked it at 325 for a longer time.

ok, i just got an egg and sport ball pan too and haven't used them yet. color me silly, but, how would you put the nail in if it's a round pan? i mean a concave surface? it wouldn't lay flat so then how whould you get it out afterwards?????

Thanks everyone, I'm going to try the Heat Core it might be tall enough to sit right - I think the flower nail might sit weird on the bottom of the pan.

i will keep you posted.

I have a 3D Wilton egg pan and never had a problem baking in it. Try baking at 325 rather than 350. If the oven is too hot the outside cooks too fast and then its harder for the inside to expand and bake.

Did you use a heating core or flower nail?

are you putting the two halves together and then baking??? I've baked each of the two halves separately many times and have NEVER had a problem!

I'm baking just one half at a time (I actually only have one pan) it is much larger than the wilton egg pan kit in the box - the one with two pans and the ring.

i'm going to try and bake it on Monday so stay tuned...

Okay so I baked the cake and I used the Heat Core and baked it for 60 minutes total (instead of the 40 minutes on the label) and it worked !

Also the heat core was flat on the bottom of the pan so it will be fine, the flower nail will sink into the batter so I would't recommend it.

Thanks for all your help !

I have had this same problem with the sports ball pan!!! icon_cry.gif I was going to use the flower nail but I didn't because I wasn't sure how I would get it after I baked it icon_confused.gif I might try to lower the temp in my oven, didn't think of that one. Has anyone else used something?

I have both the soccer and the other ball pan, baked both without any help with no worries. I bake at a slightly lower temp, turns out beautifully everytime. Wish I had the eggpan too, but out here, I can't get them
