Hi I was wondering how to make a basket handle and a lid for a basket. I want to make a basket cake for easter with flowers coming out of the top. Any ideas would be of great help.

You could make a handle out of royal icing...not sure about a lid yet, but I'm thinking I've seen a picture somewhere where someone has made a lid.

Have u tried a search of the pics on this site?

I've seen some beautiful baskets with lid partly open and flowers spilling out. Do a search, they're out there. I love that idea for Easter!

I've never tried it but I figure you could make the lid out of a half and half mixture of fondant and flower paste or pastillage if you have it.

I have a basket with a handle in my pics.. I just made mine out of fondant, I did add some gum tex so it would harden up, you could also use gum paste. I just let it sit for a few days.... Was not hard you can do it! thumbs_up.gif

No lid on mine but it would think you could make it out of fondant as well....

Hope that helps

I'm making a basket with lid as well in the next week or so...but I've already made the lid...I just took fondant and rolled it out nice and thing on top of parchment paper dusted with cornstarch and then cut to the shape of the pan I'm going to bake my cake in...then just let it sit in a safe place and forget about it! After a few days it was nice and hard and now when I'm ready to decorate my cake I'll just do the basket weave on top of the "plate" that I've made for the lid...same with handle...just cut a thin strip and let it dry over a large bowl or jar so you get the handle shape.
