Fondant Figure Pricing????

Ok, another pricing question........

How much do you all charge or sugest I charge for fondant figure molding?
I do a lot of cakes with little people/ animals on them.

Should I charge per figure, how much fondant, how much time????I have no idea???


Any thoughts would be sooooo helpful! I am in the process of setting up a web site and have no idea what to say about the pricing of them!

i would charge per figure, figuring in the complexity of the piece. Some figures are very easy to make and quite simple so charge accordingly. You could spend all day on some figures esspecially the detailed people

If you knew how much a plastic figure would be- could you then double it? at least

I think it is hard to price anything but the amount of time spent on something is not necessarily how much someone will pay for it. You could probably spend 3 or 4 hours easy on a molded figure but is someone going to pay 20$ plus the cake for it. For your web site I would put that each figure will be individually priced according to the complexity of it. I would charge an extra $5 minimum for very simple figures and go up from there.

Thanks, that helps alot! I am kinda out in the boonies and do not want my customers to freak out on the picing. I was thinking of starting at $5, but did not want to give anyone sticker shock!

Yes I know what you mean and sometimes we do things because we enjoy them and people just don't know how much time it takes to do these kinds of things. Good luck!

Don't know if this helps much, but mine start at $8 each. You put a lot of work and detail in these things - they aren't mass produced like the little toys you can place on there, so I think we aren't asking too much!!!

That helps alot.... I ahve just been estimating, I had been just doing cakes for family and friends, and now it is friends of friends, of friends....Which is good, but I need some kinds pricing, also, as I said I am not sure how to handle the figures on the web site?

Should I bother to give a starting price point, or just state that they are an addition fee???

I would just state they are an additional charge unless you have pictures to show as some people will interpret the prices differently or you could just state that the figures start at this price and will be charged accordingly to their complexity.

I think that is what I am going to do state a starting price point and say that they go up from there depending on detail....
