I have a friend/co-worker that was diagnosed with Breast Cancer little over a week ago. Tonight was her last night at work before her surgery to remove the lump and undergo chemotherapy. This was my one night off before having to go back to work tomorrow night so I spent it making this cake for her. I know that it is one of her favorites and I just wanted to show her I cared and that I wish her well. She was very surprised and together we walked through the hospital sharing her cake with everyone. I was very happy that I had the time off to make this cake for her because it made her very happy and hopefully it took away a little bit of her stress. Please pray for her speedy recovery with me and that the Cancer doesn't return.

Thank you,
Lazy_Susan

P.S. The cake is a Poppy Seed Layer Cake with White Chocolate Cream Frosting. It is 2 layers torted to make 4 layers. Each layer was filled with the icing and a layer of sliced strawberries. On the sides is shaved white chocolate. I also added a few of my hand rolled fondant pearls to the decorations.

Susan, your cake is lovely. My sister-in-law just had a double mastectomy this past week after having a lumpectomy and finding more cancer below. Hopefully, things are looking up now. My thoughts and prayers are with your friend as well. icon_smile.gif

What did you use to cover the board with? Nice cake!

I always go to the Dollar Store and buy different kinds of gift wrapping paper to cover my boards icon_smile.gif

That's a neat idea! Do you ever have a problem with the ink bleeding onto the cake or anything? Or do you put a wax paper circle down first?

I've never had a problem. Just put the cake directly on top of the gift wrap paper.

That is a beautiful cake and such a thoughtful gesture. Your friend is lucky to have someone like you in her life. I pray that her surgery and chemo are successful.

I just found out that you really should be covering with contact paper. I'm going to be doing that from now on! icon_smile.gif

Oh okay! Do you mean cover the wrapping paper with clear contact paper, or just use straight contact paper?
