I made the cake in the 2006 Wilton year book, "Rude Awakening" on page 25 for a woman. I used 4 pounds of chocolate to make the headboard and footboard, 24 oz. package of fondant for the blanket and pillow, 2 cake mixes were used to make the 9x13 cake, head and body, cream filling between the 3 layers and buttercream icing used to ice cake. It took several hours to prepare and decorate the cake. I was going to request $86 for the cake but my husband thought that was pricey. I think at $86 I wouldn't want to spend the time it took me to make one of these
cakes again. Does anyone have an idea as to what would be a reasonable
price to ask for a cake like this????? I looked up the pricing quide
in the files section but was unable to determine the price.
I need help pricing this one!!!!!!!!!!! Help!!

you haven't settled a price yet, and you already made the cake? i don't sell cakes, so i can't offer pricing advice, but i think you should have discussed it with her before you did any work. jmho

He thought it was "pricey" because he knows how much 4 pounds of chocolate cost and how much he would expect to earn per hour if HE was doing the work? Or he thinks it's pricey because "....it's just cake!" and you can get a small sheet cake at walmart for fifteen bucks!?

When hubby and I got married, and he found out what a bakery wedding cake cost, he about died! (I ended up making my own cake). He had ZERO reference to what a wedding cake cost, he'd never ordered a wedding cake or even knew anyone who had ordered a wedding cake. He just got some silly idea in his head from god knows where that a 3 tiered cake to feed 100 would cost about thirty bucks! Because ".....it's just a cake!"

BTW, he has since changed his outlook on that subject! icon_twisted.gif
