Welcome to CC Jilly51!! Everything I have learned, I learned here on CC=) Not only are there wonderful tutorials on the home page, but will all the questions that get posted too. The members are so wonderful to take the time and answer the questions, no matter how big or small...even providing links if needed=) Back when I first found CC, I was reading like crazy, there is so much info here. I even went to the very last page and worked my way up. Welcome again, Jen

Welcome to CC. The only advice I can give is to have fun. Read as much as you can. You can seriously spend hours reading things on here. I read all of the tutorials on the home page as Newbeebaker suggested, they help a lot. Go to your library and check out as many cake decorating books as you can, you can then choose which you would like to buy. My favorites are Toba Garrett's "The Well Decorated Cake" and Dede Wilson's "Wedding Cake Book. Those for me are the two I use the most, they have awesome scratch recipes and lots of tips on how to make and decorate a cake. Bake a cake just to practice and give it away to neighbors, family, and friends they are the best taste testers. You can ask them for honest feedback to perfect your recipes, I know its hard not to eat cake, I'm dieting as well. And one of the most important things take pictures of every cake, no matter how ugly you think it is. You will see how much you improve over time.
