Has anyone finished off a buttercream cake by pouring a glaze over it? I have a fairly old Wilton book that shows this and I think the effect is lovely. I get the feeling this was a solution pre-fondant days for a smooth look. I have used poured fondant to cover petit fours and loved the effect but never a cake. What do you think?

i am pretty sure that this is like a poured fondant that they used. I have never done that before but have seen what you are talking about.

I pour chocolate ganache over BC all the time. The key, I think, is to be sure the ganache is cool enough to not melt the BC. It's never been a problem for me. I do a chocolate BC cake with ganache poured and dripped down the sides a bit. People rave over the combination!

icon_smile.gif Yes that's it! Sounds delish. The one I saw was a circle mold and the open center had gumpaste roses. Was lovely. I think I will try this with the ganache. Thanks for the tip thumbs_up.gif

I'd love to see a pic of this technique. I've never seen it before.
