I like the idea of rope or they make rows of daisy-like flowers attached together like a ribbon. The texture of the flowers would hide the imperfections of the board more than a plain ribbon. But seriously- YOU are the one that will see that- everyone else will be in awe over the beautiful cake! You need to feel good about it though, so if the board bothers you, try holding a couple of things up to it and see what works best. You could even glue small silk flowers here and there around the board to match the flowers on the cake. Not having a solid border of flowers will allow you to still handle the cake without difficulty.

I would suggest getting some leather wang(strings) at your craft store in a color to match or complement your cake. you could braid them and glue around the edge of the board. or just glue them aound one at a time like rings.

After i set the cake up at the serving table, i'd add some light green rafia just around the edge of the board. It'd look like grass and would highlight your theme. Beautiful cake by the way!
