Here is the cake that I made for my mom's b-day. Everything that could have gone wrong did! Ha ha... I'm just glad it was for my mom... icon_smile.gif I would tell the whole story but I am afraid that it would be FAR too long. There are a couple of things that I would like advice on... 1) I made the Satin Ice Fondant Recipe from this site and it ended up being very dry and crumbly while at the same time sticky... I couldn't quite figure out how to fix it because it is hard to fix one problem without making the other worse. The cake also turned out a lot different because I couldn't roll the icing out in very big pieces because it just fell apart... so we ended up just cutting into strips and placing it on. 2) I made the Martha Stewart IMBC and I know that it says that when you whip it that it probably curdle and to just continue whipping it... but I whipped the thing forever until the butter started melting and it just wouldn't stop curdling... I know that the butter is not supposed to melt... and the icing looked perfect before I added the cold butter... so I must have done something wrong there. Needless to say we had to throw it out and buy BC frosting because we were already running late and we didn't have any other ingredients.
The other thing that went terribly wrong was that my SIL accidentally used the wrong size cake pans. icon_smile.gif So the top layer was REALLY Topsy... but amazingly enough it never fell over.
The whole cake was kind of thrown together... but at least it makes for a good laugh... and learning experience. icon_smile.gif Enjoy! icon_biggrin.gif

It's a topsy turvy cake.....exactly what you planned....it's cute. not sure how to help with the sticky fondant - other than to use a little crisco. Usually helps mine - but I always use MMF.
