I searched the boards and couldn't figure this out....so can someone give me input?
I saw a cake on here that I'd really love to make for DH's bday in May. It's a 14-inch round with a football on top. How many servings would that be? I'm thinking WAY too many, but I can't figure out how to make it smaller. It's really just us two, and then he'll take the rest into work...but I think there would be too much leftover even for the guys at work! I don't want to be wasteful.
I don't know which cake you're talking about to tell you. I know a 14 inch round is a pretty big cake ... especially if it is two layers. Is it because they used the football pan for the football on top?
My suggestion is to make a cake whatever size you want and just draw a football on the top. It's not a difficult pattern.
But if you want to copy the cake you had seen exactly, and if he is taking the rest to work, then I say it's good advertising for you. Have all the guys at work take some home with them. Send in some sturdy disposable plates and a roll of aluminum foil. Maybe you'll get a couple of cake orders in the future.
thanks! It would be awesome if I could get some business out of it! I'm really wanting to quit my job and go back to school....the supplemental income would be awesome! We'll have to see. I might still try to make it a little bit smaller...I've got my thinking cap on!
sgmaluv,
I love your avitar.
I do about one to three cakes a week. (mostly one and some weeks I don't do any cakes.) The average is $25.00. It just buys my gas for the car! It's not much for supplemental income. And it took a long time to build it this large. My biggest times are May and June ... First Communion and graduation. I already have four cakes booked for a first communion in May on the same day.
