I've got to come up with a Buffy cake in a little over a week. I've never watched the show, so I'm totally clueless.

This is for a GROWN MAN...a kinda weird one, but...nevertheless. He is apparently a Buffy fan.

Any concepts/suggestions?

Didn't find anything in the galleries.

go to

http://amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw/104-2424961-7721535?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=buffy+the+vampire+slayer&Go.x=11&Go.y=11

click on any dvd season then you can enlarge the pic and see which one you like and go from there
an edible image or a fbct would be good to make

just make sure it is not not the movie with kristy swanson or the comic

How about doing the cover of the collector dvd set:
http://tinyurl.com/2us2y5
The dripping letters and blood splatters could be fun.

And you could add a fondant wooden stake (I think she used to call it "Mr. Pointy").

There is also an iconic book featured in the series entitled "Vampyr." Maybe a book cake?

Let us know what you decide, and how it comes out. My husband is a big Buffy fan. icon_rolleyes.gif

Buffy is on cable in the morning during the week. FX at 6:00 or 7:00 AM.

That is the lead in to the show.

This is driving me crazy. Turns out, the crew really teases this guy about watching Buffy, and so it's more of a "dig" than a recognition of his fandom.

Right now, I'm thinking about red velvet cake. Maybe heart-shape. Maybe not.

Mr. Pointy, huh? I could do Mr. Pointy and have the tip of the thing about to go through the Birthday Boy's name.

Or, if I did the cake as a heart-shape, maybe I could just have a big Mr. Ponty coming out of the top. But, if I made the cake heart-shaped, I'd probably want to use red icing, and I just hate to mess with red.

The guy was goth when he was a teenager, so maybe black? That's just as bad as red, though. But, I'm thinking a Black and white icing combination on red velvet cake could look really good.

I'm thinking some version of the logo on the side of the cake. I like the red and white graphic on the DVD collection mentioned above. Maybe I could make the icing two-toned and replicate that whole look.

ARRRRGH!!!!!

I hate messing with black or red frosting, too. It tastes funny and it stains your lips and tongue!

But I love the idea of the heart with a stake going into it. Maybe right into his name?

Black/white icing on red velvet could be cool; maybe even some red accents, dripping blood or something?

Or...in the style of that DVD cover, instead of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, you could write "[Name] the Birthday Slayer." (is it a birthday cake?) Kinda silly, but could be fun, especially if his friends are kidding around with him.

I had logged on to post the drawing I came up with and just read the last post for the first time. I may have to play with the "Josh the Birthday Slayer" idea a bit.

Anyway - I appreciate the tip about Mr. Pointy. There are even Mr. Pointy collectibles out there! Who knew? So, I'm going to do a Mr. Pointy in gumpaste and make it the focal point of the cake since apparently this guy is more into the goth aspect than Sarah Michelle Gellar. icon_smile.gif

Mr. Pointy is a given. Going to play with the other concept a bit. Here's what I have so far. (Keep in mind this will definitely be homemade Red Velvet cake...the kind that's so red it stains the napkins.)

Thanks so much for your help. I was totally clueless about this one!

sorry, last minute suggestion - I'm a huge Buffy fan and was wondering what would be the ultimate to get as a cake. I read the suggestions and doing Mr. Pointy would be fun. But what would really make this guy's day would be to do the Scythe used in the final episodes.

Here's a screenshot of it in a rock: http://www.josswhedon.it/fray/images/scythe/Touched/Scythe7x20-1.jpg

Here's also a better shot of the scythe itself:

It would seem like a lot of work but would make his year.

Oh, my! I don't think I'm up to the scythe! I hardly know the guy. I think Mr. Pointy is more in scale with our relationship. LOL! That's an amazing piece of hardware, though!

I found a Buffy-type font and here's what I came up with re the "birthday slayer" suggestion above. I'm thinking now...Mr. Pointy and blood on the top, dripping down....and the personalized rip-off logo on the sides intead of the real Buffy logo.

What do you think? I'm off to find my brown coloring. I've got gumpaste in the fridge already. This might not be so bad....

I really was just throwing it out there - the scythe would be very complicated. I do like the font - it's very close to the one used for the show. You don't actually need to use blood. In Buffy lore, when you stab a vampire, they turn to dust - no blood involved. You could do graham cracker 'dust' down from the end of the spike - that would be even more true to the show.

I am looking forward to seeing what you come up with. Not a Buffy fan per se just a vampire fan in general. icon_smile.gif

Good luck, by your drawings it will be fabulous!

Well, here's the final cake. Red velvet with cream cheese icing. Buffy logo on all four sides. The guy who ordered it didn't go for the "Birthday Slayer" thing. And he wanted to stick with the blood, even when I told him about the no-blood thing. It was a HUGE hit, even though "Mr. Pointy" resembled a carrot. icon_smile.gif I started with canned dark chocolate icing for the black. Big mistake. That stuff is impossible to smooth. But, it made a nice black. Oh well....

Crimsicle, this is incredible! It's exactly what I had in my head!!

How did you do the logo on the sides?

How many layers is the cake? I am so happy for you; it turned out wonderful.

Love it! I'll forgive the blood-part, it might have been too "inside-Buffy" for non-Buffy fans to get it icon_razz.gif

It really looks stunning. Great work!

The logo is just an edible image, printed landscape so it would fill the entire side. That gave an almost-seamless impression.

It's two layers. I needed to have maximum servings, so I made a double recipe and over-filled 2 8 inch squares so it would rise above the pans. I cut even with the pans so I would have a full two inches deep. So, with the filling, it's a little over 4 inches tall.

Thanks for the positive comments, everyone. It was fun to do.
