Has anyone used a pasta roller to roll out fondant (manual or power)? Does it work? If it does work know where I can find a wide one?

TIA,
Julie

I did for making a fondant ribbon to go around a cake. I thinkt to go bigger you would need a comercial pizza roller or even bigger.

There was a post a couple weeks ago that had a link for a large sugarpaste roller, but the price for it was about $2000. I use a clay machine from Michaels. With the 40% coupon, I only paid about $30 for it. It works wonders for small decorations.

I have been trying to find this post, do you remember anything else about the post that would help me find it in search?

I would like to find a wide one for doing small cakes.

I will have to research it some more, but unfortunately I have to take my son to therapy right now. When I get back at noon, I will look for it and let you know. Sorry about the delay.

I found it!! It took me forever, but I finally found it.

It is about half way down the page and called a Fondant Sheeter. I also did a search in the forums regarding fondant sheeters and came up with 19 hits. HTH

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You. That's what I was hoping to find. I don't love the price but I just can't roll the fondant out by hand (I have fibromyalgia).

hearing the hallelujiah chorus playing!!

I never ever had any luck with the clay machine or even my Atlas pasta roller when dealing with fondant. I don't know what my problem was. It just never worked for me.

Now I have another piece of equipment for my fantasy cake shop wish list! icon_rolleyes.gif

on the food network the other day----the cake challenges
I seen someone use a manual pasta roller to roll out fondant
for small decorations
and they also use a clothes steamer to steam the fondant on the cake
so that the decoration they were putting on would stick
I found that interesting

who knew-- a pasta roller and clothes steamer used in decrorating a cake

Also,
keep your eyes open for restaurants going out of business. I'm sure they let their stuff go for dirt cheap.

I also have a small clay machine that I picked up in Ebay but I only do small cakes.

Good Luck!

When you say " pasta roller" do you mean a pasta maker ? I always use it to roll my fondant & flowerpaste thin ( usually quicker than rolling pin ! ) You just have to cover the paste well with cornflour so it doesn't stick as it goes through the rollers

Boy, I am with you guys~! I need something to help out my wrists are killing me lately. My brother (who is uber mechanical) said there has to be a better way and I said yep, there is about $2000 worth... He said nah, we could make one. So I decided to let him figure it out and if he does I will share. He was saying something about metal bars or something. Anyhoo, I am with you on this I need one too. icon_smile.gif

ok..wacko vision of his youth...and in keeping w/ valmommytodanny's brothers thoughts.

for those old enough (choke, cough) to remember (and in my case, send his hand through once!).

the old washing machine wringers!!! (back before they could spin)

hmmmm..... find one, clean it up real well, and replace the rollers w/ plastic rolling pins.

i wonder if that could work?

I picked one up at bed bath and beyond the other day. It was 29.99 and I had a 20% coupon - so 23.99 + tax. I haven't used it yet, though. It's a manual one that clamps to your table. I bought it to roll out mmf for cookies...

What about the tables that clay artists use to roll out slabs? Guess it would be called a slab roller. Not sure if the price is better than the $2000 one listed on the first page though, or if it would even work since there are pieces of canvas that you put the clay between before rolling through. Just a thought.

JoAnn's (craft store) has a clay roller (small one) on sale for $14.99. I know this wouldn't work for large cakes but I'm wondering if it would work for rolling out the small amounts needed for flowers. I have fibromyalgia and carpal tunnel so I have to have my DH do all my fondant rolling.

I had sugery for carpal tunnel in October, I know how painful it is.

I too would like to know if it would work?
