I am taking the Wilton II class, about to do my final cake. I have been using the Wiltons Class Buttercream Recipe but can't stand the taste of it. I found the Dream Whip Buttercream on this site and was wondering if any of you have ever used it.

What consistency does this make? When we ice a cake we use thin, when we do the rope border and basketweave we are to use a medium consistency. I know how much water to add to the Wilton buttercream because it is in the book, I am not too sure about how to make this recipe the consistency I need.

Can the Dream Whip Buttercream be used to make borders and basketweave?

Also I made a lemon cake, going to fill it in with a rasberry filling. Should I add a touch of lemon extract to my icing? The Dream Whip uses 2 tsp vanilla. Should I make it 1 tsp lemon, 1 tsp vanilla?

I use a variation of this recipe ... I use milk instead of water; I use less than a full packet of Dream Whip; I dont' use as much shortening, and I don't use butter flavor (just lots of clear vanilla) but it's the only icing I use for icing, roses, borders, etc. Mine crusts well in just a few minues and holds up very well outdoors in extremely high heat and humidity.
