I am in the process of making the cupcakes now. I am going to try the candy melts with a little bit of shortning. I hope I don't make a mess! icon_smile.gif

How much shortning should I add to like 1/2 a bag of candy melts???

I put about a tablespoon and dipped the cupcakes and put them in the refrigerator. I am going to do the chocolate when I get back from picking up my son.

Any advice on how much shortning I should add to a bag of dark cocoa candy melts???

Thanks! icon_smile.gif

I will let you know how they turned out! Will the shortning add a little shine to the chocolate???

The cupcakes are done! I will post pictures tommorrow.

Thanks to all that helped.

I used the candy melts and shortning and found that it worked pretty well. I am not sure if I added the right amount...but they looked close to the picture. I hope the customer likes them! icon_biggrin.gif

Regarding the comment about the liquid chocolate fondant....you can heat up any fondant in a sauce pan over med low heat, stir it, and you will get a glaze like consistency. That is why you would use for things like petit fours, or like the person said...donuts!

I delivered the cupcakes today and the customer loved them so much that she ordered 4 more trays!!! I guess I better get busy making more gumpaste flowers!

I ended up charging 25.00 per tray...I think they got a good deal because these were a lot of work! icon_smile.gif

Did I get close to Harry and David???? icon_wink.gif

Those look great! Probably taste better than the H&D ones too!

You totally should have charged more, but if you're like me, you probably can't!

Thanks for all the nice compliments! And all the suggestions on what to try! I will start making some more on Sunday. They want 2 trays for Monday and 2 for Tuesday.

Just wondering...would it be possible to use chocolate chips with the shortning to have the same effect??? I ran out of chocolate candy melts...but have a ton of chocolate chips! How much shortning should be added to a bag of chocolate chips??? icon_smile.gif

Yes it will work! You can play with the amount of shortening. The more you add the runnier it will be.
Be careful not to overheat the chocolate. The surface won't be shiny if the chocolate get's too hot.
