Personal Shower Cake

I am making my second cake ever this Friday for a personal shower for a close friend. How long do you all wait after baking the cake until you ice it? Also, her color are red and black. I was going to ice the cake in red bc and do a bra and panties outlined in black with the red showing through. Do I need to add some white? This is one of my favorite color combinations but this is what they want.

As a rule, I ALWAYS freeze my cakes 20 minutes after pulling it out the oven (still in the pan). If possible (time allows), let freeze completely, then remove from freezer, thaw and remove from pan. If no time to freeze completely, freeze it at least until cold, let it thaw and remove from pan. Ice and decorate as usual. I don't know why or how, but freezing seems to help keep the cake moist and easier to ice. Hope this helps!

I always bake my cake the night before I'm going to decorate it. Let it sit and cool over night so it settles down.

I think black and red will look great together. Have fun and don't forget to post the photo when you're done.

if you have time, bake the cake the night before you decorate to make sure it is cooled completely.... I let it cool for a couple of hours and the cover in saran wrap to avoid drying out..... if you don't have the luxury of another day, wait at least 3 hours after it is turned out of the pan, it should be cooled. Also just so you know black and red are the hardest colors to achieve..... so don't get frustrated. My suggestion to you for red is put a pinch and I mean just the end of a toothpick dipped in black first and then add your red, otherwise you will probably wind up with pink and get frustrated. For black, I add a touch of brown and then work up to black.... if you have access to Americolors instead of Wilton, use their super black and super red, they work much better and you use less coloring, just my opinion! Well you have to let the cake completley cool which takes about a good 20 minutes. I let the cake in the pan for about 10 to keep some moisture in and make it moist. Then I take it out and let it cool to room tempature. I think your idea is good and if that is what they want maybe you should go with that. HTH!! Make sure to take a ton of pictures so you can share them with us!!! Yay for you!!!
