Ok, after years of Wilton color, I want to go with Americolor this time. I'm going to start with 10 or so, and need help picking colors!! I've seen their chart but I don't know what they'll look like in the icing! I need help picking a red, a blue and pinks. There's a handful of each offered. Flowers are my thing, I make lots of roses, and other types of flowers and like realistic colors.... I especially loved that Wilton 4pk years ago with delphinium blue and aster mauve in it, those are 'my' colors... any hints!?
I just started using Americolors, and I really love them. The Super Red is great, and you don't need a ton of it. I have also liked their "electric" colors! All of them have been fantastic!
Oh yeah, and the Super Black is awesome!! It turned black right away vs Wilton's color.
Okay.I would get the primary colors first.Super Red,Super Black,Royal Blue,Yellow,Orange,Green.Brown is good also and copper or fleshtone.I love the Electric colors as well and use the Green, pink and blue all the time. The pink and yellow are very close to pink and yellow from the regular line.
I have to say that I LOVE LOVE LOVE avacado. I use it for leaves a lot.
Here is what I would get:
super black
super red
avacado
violet
Leaf green (good for like a regular green-like football field green)
Fushia
egg yellow (I prefer this over lemon yellow)
dusty rose
royal blue
orange
sky blue (is pretty for a turquoise)
I just ordered 12 Americolor gels two weeks ago and have used them only once, but LOVE them! Two things I already rate high......1. the amount of color I have to use is less than the 'other' brand....and.....2. the squeeze bottle is SOOOOOOO much cleaner, neater and more convenient!!!!!
Best of luck with your order......I'm sure you will fall in love with Americolor, just as I have!
Thanks everyone!
I have fresh containers of orange, copper and brown in Wilton so I don't need them now, I'll get those colors later!
Merissa, I had 7 down already and you said 5 of those! Yay! I'm glad you mentioned egg over lemon yellow because I had chosen lemon. I'll go with egg first, I can get lemon later on.
Is there a color that will get me like a cornflower blue?? Sky blue looks so bright...
Just to let you know egg yellow is a very pale dull yellow so if you are looking for a vibrant yellow...Lemon is the better one!!!
Thanks everyone!

Well I have lemon yellow and egg yellow. Like I said I prefer the egg yellow, it has more golden tones and I think it is prettier, more natural looking. I have only used it once but it is what I used for the lightning mcqueen bolt on the side of the cake and the royal icing. The lemon yellow is very bright, I usually seem to end up putting too much in and it is like blinding to me LOL! But I am sure it can be made softer if you use it carefully. Just a personal preference though!
I would say a small amount of royal blue can be close to a cornflower blue. Most of the blues in my photos are done with the royal blue. Sometimes I add a touch of violet and that is very pretty. the sky blue more turquoise in color.
