Congratulations, I think you should get paid unless you wish to give them a very expensive gift.

Congratulations on the order!!! No offense, but unless it's your mothers wedding, I think you getting paid should be between you and the couple. Good luck!!

i agree....wedding cakes are VERY expensive....and time consuming...you should have them pay...even if a discounted rate

congrats! but i agree with everyone, you should get paid. even just to cover material costs. if your mom thinks it's a bad idea and wants to give the cake as a gift, then she should at least pay for the material costs icon_wink.gif

Congratulations! You should definitely get paid. People just do NOT get it when it comes to the value of our work. If you were going to give the couple a gift costing maybe $200 and up...yeah, it might be OK to give them the cake. But, otherwise, give them a gift within your budget - and let them choose a cake within THEIR budget and pay you for it! If you do it for free, first thing you know, you'll be doing baby shower cakes and first birthday cakes, and on and on for them....for free. Voice of experience. icon_smile.gif

Congratulations on the order! Is this a close family member??? You will want to use your own judgement on this. I do not charge my family or close friends. However...I think they should cover the costs of ingredients especially if it is a large cake.

I think this will be good for your experience and portfolio even if you give them a big discount. icon_smile.gif
