I've never used extenders.....I'm doing a 6" round and a 10" round. I used DH box mix.

The 6" round is fine with one box of white dh.

But, the 10" round......2 layers of coarse......kinda need more than one box to do those, lol.

So, I'm thinking about doing an extended cake mix. The 10" round is chocolate.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! TIA!

An extender is where you add ingredients to a regular cake mix (scratch or box) like a box of pudding or extra eggs, etc.

I've never used an extender, so I was looking for something easy....I've searched here on CC, but dont really know where to start...theres so much to look for.

The Darn Good Chocolate cake recipe (in the recipe section) is awesome, but I don't know if it would 'extend' your batter enough for 10". How tall are they, 2 or 3"? I use this recipe for 9" cakes all the time and they rise quite high in my 2" pans.
With all that said, you can get one of the extender recipes that adds the extra flour, sugar, etc to add to any cake. Or you could make 2 mixes have have leftover cupcakes or cake balls...yum!
Sorry, I guess I wasn't that helpful. icon_redface.gif

I have used the extender, and it does give you a bit more batter.. It should work with a 10inch like you said you were using.. I have gotten a lot of compliments on the taste of the cake when using the extender. It tastes more like scratch. If you type in cake extender in the reciepe section you will find it.

THanks everyone...I think I may just use 2 cake mixes & have cup cakes with the left over batter.

The way it looks....we may have more guests than originally intended, so thanks again!!!!
