has anyone ever used chocolate milk mix (like Nestle's) instead of the cocoa in the MMF? If so did it work? How about the color of the fondant, was it dark enough to make the black?

I am looking for a better taste then using plain cocoa.

Thanks

icon_surprised.gif OMG! I never even thought of using the Nestle's chocolate milk powder! I am DEFINITELY going to have to try this! And just imagine it in cookies! YUMM!

Sorry I couldn't help with your question but thanks for the suggestion! thumbs_up.gifthumbs_up.gif

LOL, my expression exactly when it came to mind.while I was in the cabinet searching for the cocoa I came across the hidden supply of my daughters mix. I thought yuuummm! Now that would taste great but I didn't want to waste the fondant if it didn't work. I didn't really like the taste of plain cocoa. Bitter and it gets worse with black color added.

Let me know about the cookie taste too.

I really have no idea if it would work, might be worth a try.... my only concern is the added sugar, might be tooo sweet since most of those milk mixes are sweet. Now the color, if you see my photos, I have a cake with a turkey sitting on it, that is the color of the chocolate MMF. HTH.

...actually, going back to the pic, it is a little darker than the pic shows, gotta blame the flash on my camera... it is almost the color of a Hershey´s chocolate candy bar.

nefgaby your cookies/cakes are awesome. Loved the turkey.
Yes, the mixes are rather sweet on top of already sweet MMF. *can hear the dentist drill in the distance* I just hate the taste of the black food color plus the added bitterness of the cocoa. It would seem that all the sugar would make it taste better but it dosen't. IMO I'm desperatly seeking an alternative (dentist may be included LOL)

I like the idea of it being in the cookies though.

we use 3 oz. of real melted chocolate in our MMF, it tastes wonderful and the result is a darker brown than with cocoa powder?

Thanks so much ShyannAutumn,
Thanks for the nice compliments, you are too sweet!!! Oh yeah, also freaking out just with the thought of that drill. aaahhhh!!!!

Now with the taste issue... IMO you can´t really taste the bitterness of the cocoa powder with all that powdered sugar and also if you use americolor black you end up using a whole lot less than with wilton´s, this helps with the black taste. HTH!!
