I had to respond when I saw this thread, even though it looks like this was from awhile back.
I think everyone will get a good laugh when they see how horrendous my wedding cake was. I had forgotten just how bad it looked until I just found this picture on my pc.
It is a long story but my husband and I were married on a tv show in August of 2004. We had a chocolate themed wedding and everything turned out absolutely wonderful except for the wedding cake. My husband and I though it was hilarious though and and were happy that the cake tasted great. My friends think that subconsciously that is why I started decorating cakes a year and a half ago. That I was traumatized by having such an awful looking wedding cake. ![]()
Here is a picture taken by our wedding photographer. These are costco chocolate cakes cut and stacked and then decorated with some sort of greenery and rose petals. The blue candy hearts are classy too....
I love this! All the cakes are so much fun to see! Aimeestrange, I love the blue with white accents! Very pretty!
Why thank you CC! My original cake was based on the blue and white wedgewood ceramics![]()
Here's mine! I was not into cakes at all when I got married. It was 11 years ago, I was fresh out of college and I think I spent all of 15 minutes choosing my cake. I so wish I knew then what I know now! And that I had seen some of the awesome creations that I've seen on this site . . . boy I would have spent a LOT more time choosing my cake!
The whole set up of the cake (flowers, peach napkins, etc . . . ) was done by the hotel where we had our reception. I was a bit taken aback as "peach" wasn't even a color in our wedding but as I said, I wasn't really into the details.
The picture isn't great . . . you can't see the details and I honestly couldn't even tell you what they were. But I think it tasted good!
My wedding cake was chosen quickly and done by local cake shop that is no longer in business. I was very disappointed in it, my color was maroon and they told me they could do it. Imagine my surprise when we saw the cake at the reception, it had HOT PINK flowers! It has been 10 1/2 years and I still cringe at the thought of my hot pink cake...

This is mine. We were married in 2004. I found a home baker who only charged $1.00 per serving! Cake tasted great, could have been smoother and she knicked the top tier while delivering it so it was a little off. However, I could have cared less for the price we paid and I just wanted to get the dancing going (we had a classic rock band)! ![]()
Sorry it's far away and dark, this is the only one I could find on my work computer. It was chocolate, marble & white cake with BC filing & BC icing, with fuschia boarders, very simple!
indigojods - can you explain that cake to us? I see the chocolate cake but I can't tell what else is on it - buttercream leaves? salad? It's hard to tell!
That's exactly what I was thinking! I see what looks like an apple salad of some sort.
Here's my wedding cake...I was married in June 2004 and this cake was done by a local grocery store bakery. This is similiar to the cake that Carmen Electra had when she married Dave Navarro except ours didn't have the crystals on it. This is a bad picture because our photographer was horrible and hardly any of our pictures turned out but I still loved the cake! Thanks for looking!
Very pretty cake! I LOVE gerbera daisies!!!!
Here's mine ... my mom made it (sorry about the blurry picture ... it was scanned from a hard copy).
Go mom.... that's cool!
My cake obsession didn't start until well after the wedding. Our cake came from a grocery store. (there were no bakeries in my town. Everyone was like... "wow this is from publix" as opposed to wal-mart. It's so funny now to look back.
I am so proud of my wedding cake. It was actually made by a member of cake central - her very first wedding cake I may add. It was a 3 square - triple choc fudge with rasp buttercream filling; white cake w/vanilla filling. My wedding theme was winter wonderland - we used a christmas tree topper for our cake topper. This was 1 1/2 years ago. She did a beautiful job! ![]()
My first wedding I spent hours planning the cake. That was the most important item on my list. OMG is was beautiful. Needless to say...he was bi-polar and it didn't work out.
2002 I married my hubby. He actually planned EVERYTHING. He and I went to Jamaica by our selves and got married. Our cake served 2. It was dry with horrible buttercream and shells. So simple but I didn't care I was married in Jamaica and going to spend the rest of the week there. Funny how times change.
I will try and get the scanner working and show the different cakes.
Don't have a pic of my wedding cake. My husband and I had a private wedding, no reception or anything. But, bless his heart, without me knowing he went to a certain store (won't say the name) and bought me a two tiered small wedding cake. It was white with the ugliest red BC roses I have ever seen! The icing was lumpy and the cake was dry. But to me it was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen just for the fact that he did it for me.
Wow I love hearing all the great stories. I have to add mine. My husband and I got married the first time in 1980. I made the wedding cake..it was awful..yellow and hot pink
But thinking back I thought it was great. I am at work right now
or else I would attached one (I think) After 2 years of marriage we divorced. Fast forward 22 years, my husband and I got remarried in 2002. We had a wonderful wedding in our backyard. His kids stood up for us. We didn't have a wedding cake, we had 4 or 5 different cakes....choc, white, german choc, etc etc. It was a wonderful wedding, we enjoyed the 2nd wedding much more than the 1st. ![]()
Thanks for letting me share
ckkerber and LanaC - sorry it took me so long to respond to your questions about what the heck was going on with my wedding cake! For some reason I stopped getting CC notifications.
The cakes are costco sheet cakes cut and stacked. They were then decorated with chocolate shavings and some molded chocolates and I heard it looked okay at that point. Then someone from the show decided to add the greenery - I am not sure what it is, some kind of lettuce? And then rose petals. I think it would have been much better without the greens. Not sure what they were thinking other than trying to add some drama to the show
Too bad my husband and I got a good laugh out of it!
That is great - I didn't think about that possibility!!! Too funny!
