I think it looks great there- and if you're putting things in between, it won't look so bare. You can make the very bottom one a dummy, and they can cut the second bottom one. More importantly, I think it will be much more likely to hold the weight.

Okay - The glass is about a medium thickness. My husband claims he could stand on them with out them breaking but I haven't had him try it yet. LOL! I sent the bride the pics to see what she likes better and I hope she likes the one with two bottom and two top tiers to save me some worry.

I might try the weight test as my husband told me how to figure it out mathematically and I really didn't want to have to make that much cake for a test run!

PROBLEM SOLVED!!! I just tested the amount of weight the vases will hold by putting a board over them and standing on them. It held with no problem. That means they will hold at least 180 lbs.

I'm glad to hear they will support the weight, and actually... I like the first one with only one tier on the bottom. It's... different. You aren't going to see that at a lot of weddings! And with flowers, etc. on him, he won't look at lonely and he does as a blank dummy foam! But the second option was beautiful too, so either way it's a winner!

I'd go with putting the vases between the 2nd and 3rd tiers. It will look just as beautiful, and with much less weight coming from that third tier. Looking forward to seeing your beautiful masterpiece.

I like the first picture. At first, I was concerned about all of that weight on the glass pillars, but if you tested it, I say go for it! It is unique and a great idea...good luck. Can't wait to see pics! thumbs_up.gif

Thanks everyone!! The bride chose to have the pillars central - between the second and third tiers so I guess that is the way I will be going. I am tempted to decorate a cake with the three tiers up just to do it but that probably won't happen in the near future -- too many other projects on the go and I need to stick with what the bride wants. She really loves the pillars so that is great considering she didn't originally want pillars but the groom was adamant that there had to be pillars!! LOL!
