I've heard of it, but have never tried it. Use just a few drops so that you can't taste it.

I use a couple of drops of vinegar in my buttercream and it works great. I haven't had a problem with cracking buttercream ever since.

This may be a silly questions but do you use White Vinegar or Apple Cidar Vinegar?

You need to use white vinegar (and only a couple of drops). I hope it works for you. I use to have a problem with my cakes cracking (even though I was using sturdy cake boards). It was worse when I had tinted frosting (not white). As I stated before once I started using the vinegar the cracking stopped.

Really?! I always assumed mine cracked because it had been put in the freezer, then thawed. Does this help that too?

CakemanOh's recipe for Brite White calls for two drops of vinegar. I've used the vinegar and the recipe and it works great!!!

Does it prevent the bc from crusting? Or prolong the time where it crusts?

Here's the link for the Brite White Buttercream Icing:

http://www.cakecentral.com/cake_recipe-2375-brite-white-buttercream-icing.html

You can always go to the Search tab and type in Brite White. Good luck!

You only need to add 4 drops of vinegar to 1 standard 3 cup batch of buttercream frosting.

You can use either apple cider vinegar or regular vinegar.

I've always just added a teaspoon of the vinegar - or maybe a bit less. I make the Buttercream Dream recipe and do that. It's done really well so far! I had to write it in big letters on my recipe though so I don't forget! icon_smile.gif
