Hey all I am new here and have read the forums in regards to how slow this site is and the cost associated with upgrading.
I have donated to help with the upkeep because I really enjoy this site, but the system is so slow.
What if the administrators limited the information that could be accessed until someone donates some money. After donation they get lifetime access. Say 5 or 10 dollars?
Even better how about a very small nominal monthly charge $2.00 or so.
Sure I realize that what makes this site so awesome is the amount of involvement from around the world, but at some point it will need to change wont it?
I know that some people can't afford much, but I am sure a $5.00 or 10.00 dollar donation is possible over time.
Also with as much work as this site requires, why should the administrators not make a little money... They should shouldn't they?
What do people think. I am not looking to cause any controversy here, but just wanted to throw it out there!!
This has been brought up before. Jackie and Heath really want this site kept free, even if it doesn't mean running a profit. The donation link decision was made with great trepidation. I don't think they would ever intentionally charge for the site since they know that not everyone can afford it. That's why it so important for everyone to donate what they can.
One thing someone could do is take their spare change and put it into a can or container or something and save it up and at the end of the month donate that to the site.
I do this, except with my son, I give him all my pennys to save up, or if I'm doing laundry and I find change in the pockets I will put it in a small tin can bank for him to deposit into his savings account when it gets full.
