Hello, first time posting questions, hopefully i did it correct. i am not sure if my problem is a frosting problem or a storing of the cake problem. i made a cake yesterday with buttercream. my family and i ate about 4 pieces they were fine, the rest of the cake, i put in a cake container
(like the ones they use at the grocery stores.) and today when i came home from work, i looked right below the frosting, the cake had a wet look(greasy look) about 1/8 inch. below that the cake was fine. i thought the problem was because i using baking sprays, so i started using pan grease.
*is the frosting too heavy
*or does it have something to do with the way i make my buttercream.
or do i have a problem storing decorated cake,
Please let me know if you can help me.
any advise would be appreciated.
Thank you

Welcome to cakecentral thumbs_up.gif You are going to love it here & be very addicted icon_lol.gif

When you say it had a wet look right below the frosting, are you refering to the case that you stored the cake in, or are you talking about on the cake its self?

the cake itself. it looked greasy below the frosting.

it could have just been the crisco you used... it might have gotten too warm.. just a thought!

Is the cake on plastic or cardboard? Sometimes if the surface doesn't absorb oil, the oil that settles from the cake will form at the bottom instead of being absorbed into the card board. I have had this happen when I put the cake on top of wax paper.

I too think that the shortening melted and leaked out.

If it were right below where the frosting meets the cake it could just be moisture though
