My son is having a birthday party at a local art studio. The art projects will be jungle theme but the invitations we sent out were curious george - he will be 4 by the way. Any ideas of how to do the cake? I saw the ones in the gallery but I am not sure I could draw that well. I was thinking maybe something with the yellow hat. I'm kind of lost...

Maybe you could do a double layer ound cake for the center, make some tree trunks on either side of the cake that go over it like an arch, and hang George from it on a swing. For the trees, you could probably get that effect by using 3-4 thinner dowels (so they bend) and stick them through the cake board to help them stay in place. Then I would cover them in tootie rolls for the bark of the tree. For the leaves, I think it would probably be easier to add small branches here and there and then add them instead of trying to figure out where the heck your gonna put leaves. OOO, or you can cover it with a little bit of vines... that would work too! I know you said you wanted something with the yellow hat but you could always add the hat in wherever you'd like so that people know that yes it is George and the man in the yellow hat.

I don't know how many servings you need, however I just looked at the man in the yellow hat's, hat, and I think you could do it in 3 D pretty easy. Looks like a flat brim, could be a 12 inch round or cardboard depending on number of servings you need. The dome part of the hat is really tall so you could use the wonder mold pan for it. Sit it in the middle of the 12 inch round and ice the whole thing yellow. Put a MMF brown band around it and you are done.

What about a FBCT? If you've never done one, they aren't too difficult. I've just recently tried this for a Scooby Doo cake and a Snowboarder cake (they didn't come out perfect, but not bad for my first attempts). Just find a Curious George coloring page or a page from a book and this can be the picture on top of your cake.

Here's a link to the tutorial -

I was just looking in the gallery under "jungle" there are many cute ideas where your can just add george.
I am not too creative today. Dad's in Vegas at the Nascar race, being taken to and from via helicopter, having fun and me I am home with my kids. I am tired from the Fri night movies, Sat disney on ice and don't want to do anything & I am turning grayer by the minute icon_eek.gif . All I want to do is look at my eye lids

Have you seen the 3-D curious George cake in the gallery, I think he is sitting on some books...

You could do something like that and make them art books or have him sitting on a artist pallette with paints etc..

If you want to give it a try, you could send krissy_kze a PM asking for some direction. That is such a great cake!! I would love to give it a try myself. Good luck.

I guess it depends on the age of the kids/your son, but if they are young, I would think a monkey cake would go over really well (I don't think they would appreciate all the work that would go into a yellow hat). So what about doing the wilton animal crackers pan as a monkey? I did it and it came out cute, but learned to add some chocolate icing to mostly white to get the light color. I went the other way around and it didn't work too well.

Just a thought.
