I was making a red, white and blue cake and didn't have any "no taste" red coloring. I used the regular red coloring and added some sugar-free (already sweetened kind) strawberry powdered drink mix to the red icing and the nasty "red" taste was gone!!

Thanks for the tip!

Adding a touch a ground cinnamon to your red icing will get rid of any nasty after taste too!

great tip for the red icing, thanks!!!!!

My only tip for black icing is start with chocolate icing, it gives it a base color so that you don't need to add near as much coloring to get a true black. (For large areas of black, I use my airbrush!)
