You might want to try roses on a stick:
(also has b/c rose video)

Here are some helpful videos - there's one on icing roses:

Have your tried using a Hersey's Kiss as the foundation?

After calming down I went back downstairs and gave it another shot. I think my bc icing was too stiff. So after fixing that problem, I attempted another and it came out better. As of now, I have about 7 roses made, but they look nothing like the book that's for sure! Better than going in empty handed I guess and I will just have to keep practicing.

It is the War of the Roses!! LOL!!

I tried using a hersery kiss for the base this last weekend and will never make another rose without it again!!! It made it so nice and no more two bags!!!!

lol @ war of the roses

I used to make my bc too stiff when I started out also. Try putting a little piping gel in it to thin it out. It makes it come out smoother icon_smile.gif

I'll have to try the hershey's kiss trick sometimeicon_smile.gif

You only need two bags/tips if you are doing it the "Wilton" way. When I started working at a grocery store bakery, I was expected to do it just using the rose tip -- now I can't believe I ever tried doing it the other way. Using just the rose tip is so much faster - we had to be able to make 8 full roses in under a minute -- yes, it is possible! We would just squeeze out a blob using the rose tip for the base and then proceed from there.
