I'll be making cupcakes for my godson's first communion at the end of April. Chocolate cake, and his mom said maybe put crosses or something on top...I was thinking perhaps fondant or white chocolate crosses. I'm not religious, though, and I have to ask, is it weird to eat a cross? It seems weird, but I don't know. I think they'll be lovely but I don't want to offend anyone, either. Thoughts or other ideas?

Thanks...everyone here is always so helpful.

Heck, I've made a cross cake and NO ONE was offended - and we're your good ol' fashioned Catholics icon_wink.gif

You're fine. Don't worry about it!

We have done cakes for our Church a few times. No one says anything about eating a cross or the baby Jesus for that matter. I think your ok.

That made me laugh out loud.

I feel better now! I think I will make the icing a pastel blue and do white chocolate crosses. Or see what other molds they have at the supply place. Thanks! icon_smile.gif

I made my very religious mother (at her request, no less) a RED VELVET cake with JESUS on it holding presents for her birthday. Even my grandma wasn't offended.

I like the idea of a chocolate cross on top of each one. And I wouldn't feel weird about making them. Have you looked in the candy isle for easter lately. There are quite a few crosses made of chocolate in my local store.

You might also want to take a look in my photos. I did a cupcake cake in the shape of a cross. Just another idea.

I think white chocolate crosses would be pretty. Maybe pipe one or a few little flowers on them and a stem wrapping around the cross. I think there are probably crosses on cakes, etc. in the gallery with flowers.... Maybe white crosses with light green stems and rosebuds...

Wow, leily. That cake is lovely. Now I'm wondering if I should do that, instead. Oh, decisions, decisions...I guess I'd have to learn to make roses, though. icon_surprised.gif

Jopalis, another good idea!

Kate714, the ones you did are kind of what I had in mind. Very nice.

Does anyone know if Buttercream Dream can be used to make roses?
