Okay the cake mix extender recipe says it makes one 3x9, right. Why is it that the cake mix by itself says it will make two 9 inch cakes? If you're adding the extender, wouldn't it stand to reason that it would make more then the mix, not less?

Bumping myself up, I really need to know if I need to go back out and buy another cake mix tonight.

most cake mix extenders turn the box into a mix and a half. The one 3 by 9 is what it is ADDING to the cake mix already.

I think the 3 X 9" is meant to mean three nine inch round cakes, each 2" tall. At least, that is the yield I have gotten. (NOT one 3" tall 9-inch round cake.)

The boxed mix yield is NEVER what the instructions list, because they aren't talking about 2" layers. (Otherwise, how could it make either 2 nine inch or 2 eight inch?)
