so i saw a post on here about that site, sugarveil i looked was totally amazed and thought hmmm... i wonder
so i checked online and found out that the airpen for cake decorating and sugarveil are the same thing... it used to be called that, they changed the name and there was a new airpen set for cake decorating on ebay... so i check back and forth all the pieces, in box with warranty brand new...
one hundred bucks so i bid on it.. and i was the only person who bid. so icon_smile.gif i'm looking forward to playing with my new toy i'll post pics as soon as i get it and figure out what i'm doing with it

You'll love it. I do all my lettering with the SugarVeil system and it's wonderful.

If you look at my pics, all the lettering is done with the SurgarVeil system. Definitely worth the money to me--even paying full price.

Check it out at www.sugarveil.com. I think they have a demo video. It will explain how it works much better than I can. Thanks for the compliment on my cakes.

You can use the mix with bags and tips as any other icing. The cool thing about it is that is stays flexible for some time and eventually dries. When dry, it is very fragile. I like the air pen because it gives me better control and is easier on my hands.

noley,

Thank you, thank you, thank you for starting this thread! I had looked at sugarveil once before but couldn't afford it. After your post, I checked on ebay and found two more pens that were available. I, too, was the only bidder on the one I bid on. I won it! I ended up getting it for about the same price that you did. I'm so excited. It will be here in just a few days. Thanks again for the research that you did. icon_biggrin.gif

God Bless!

Quick question to the sugarveil experts...what do you use to pipe on?

I was reading that you can use parchment, wax paper, etc. Any advice on what works best?

Karensue, your cakes are amazing!

I found it, now just one more question... do you think this air pen can be also used as an airbrush? Or only for sugarveil?
Thanks again!

nefgaby - check out the FAQ on Silkpainy site for these Air Pens - it says that they do not "spray" - they "extrude". So, apparently they cannot be used as an airbrush. Noley - please keep us posted on how this works with icing - sounds like a great find!

I have found that the best thing to use for writing is a piece of clear vinyl I purchased from Hobby Lobby .. you can easily see through it. Whatever medium you use, parchment, wax paper, vinyl, be sure to always coat it with a light film of Crisco or you won't be able to lift the lettering off, it'll stick tight.

So I assume you need to buy the icing mix for this? How long does it last?

Once you mix some up will it keep for awhile?

There is a recipe on here for a SugarVeil type icing, but I haven't tried it yet.

The icing is pretty expensive. $15 for a 1 lb. bag, but I've learned to make small amounts so I don't waste as much. Yes, it will keep awhile. You'll just need to rebeat it because it gets kind of frothy. I've kept mine on the counter and in the refrigerator.

I'm going to try the recipe from here and will let you all know what it works when I do.
