Can I cut out the main part of an edible image that I purchase and put it on gumpaste to make an icing plaque? What do I attach it with?

I ask because I don't have the stuff to print my own and I need a Dora and Diego for a cake. I thought about doing a chocolate transfer, but like the "icing plaques" on a CCer's cake (can't remember whose it is though). I found both a Dora and Diego edible image, but they are quite large, and I only want the characters, not the extra decoration, so can I cut these out?

TIA for all help, suggestions, whatever!
