Hey Mr. Construction!
I'm looking for internal support design assisance (of course anyone one can help, but I know Doug is great at this) .
I am going to attempt the hockey player cake like Mike's Amazing Cakes (minus the duck head) - trying to make sure my internal support is right is the toughest part. http://www.mikesamazingcakes.com/event.html
I'm thinking copper tubing, a pipe of some sort, a T connector maybe? But I will need a platform at the top for the helmet as well. How do I attach it all? Do I have to buy a saudering iron?
I am trying to leave enough time so that if I fail I can change directions and do another cake - it's for this Saturday.
Anyone else here a pro at internal skeletons for this kind of cake? Am I making any sense?
Trying to figure out how to word an email to Mike himself as well to see if he has any tips.
TIA!
Laura
actually he, uhm, I am out here ... at work! (shhhhh...don't tell anyone I'm looking at CC!!!)
familiar w/ the cake.
let me see what I can do.
this may take until late tonight ---

ok...it's late...and here's my try at it....
remember this is a best guess.
base of plywood
then copper tube up center w/ a T fitting at top (see this page for reference >> http://pexsupply.com/CategoryPre.asp?cID=130&brandid=&osadcampaign=googleCopperPipeFittings )
then copper tube bent to get arm shape -- connect to t and then I'd also connect to hockey stick and use hockey stick to get extra support.
note how left arm touches board...clamp tube to board at that point too.
treat as stacked tiers -- w/ internal cakeboards and dowels
and I show 4, you may want more, long dowels to hold up plate under the head -- could attach to copper pipe too.

here's the contact page for Mike >> http://www.mikesamazingcakes.com/contact.html
be interesting for you to send message to him and find you how he actually did it.
HTH
Doug you ROCK! Can't thank you enough - I'll let you know how it goes.... fingers crossed!
