I see alot of cake boards used that look like the ones that a local grocery store here uses when they make cakes. They are covered in a silver type foil that has a swirl design. Where can I get boards similar to these. They are very sturdy.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I've seen them at Party City and Michael's and A.C. Moore....most places that sell cake decorating supplies have them...and depending on your grocery store, some of them will sell you the boards too.

the best cake boards are called TUFF boards. You can reuse them because they are are washable and are not much more than the cardboards. Especially good if you are just testing and trying. I get mine at a dec supply place. Sure you can get them on the net though from Beryls or Sugarcraft. Fearlessbaker

The cardboard ones I can buy at my local Walmart. I hot glue two or thee together if it is a real heavy cake. Then I cover it with foil, wrapping paper, etc...

For weddings or very large cakes I go to my local cake decorating store and buy the wood ones and the bakes foil...

My husband works at a cabinet shop, so he brought me home a 14x17 in. cupboard. I want to put my nephews cake on it but I think I might have to dowel the f-ball into the sheet cake. How would I get the dowel threw it? OR should I get another reg. cake board and place that on top of the cupboard? understandable or no?

I buy them at cake dec. store in Los Angeles called Glorias. They are overpriced on everything because they are the only place this side of town. There is another place called Surfas in L.A. They will ship and I think they are on line. Also, try the net. I need to get some Merkens for molding. It is just too much now. $4.65 a lb. Trouble is on ebay by the time I Pay for shipping it ends up being more. Any ideas? Fearlessbaker

I buy them directly from the manufacturer. Mine are gold with a ruffle edge. I also get the clamshell base and top from them as well. Check out candy wholesalers and restaraunt supply stores as well. The ones I get are very professional looking and cost about the same as wiltons boards and flimsy cardboard boxes with the window. The company I get them from is Brenmar. you can find them online with google search.

Just a note on wilton boards. THEY ARE CRAPPY and overpriced. The corrugation is vertical instead of horizontal. If you have a heavy cake (I add filling) they will fold right in half when you pick them up. get a board that is corrugated horizonally (Lengthwise) to eliminate this problem.
