I am having a heck of a time coming up with good colors. I have all the Wilton and lots of Americolor colors and still, when I make pink it comes out looking like Pepto...or a lighter shade of Pepto. I want to be able to make the bright magentas, sky blues, true leafy greens etc. and when I mix colors, it comes out all the same.

Any tips? I think they need to offer a 'color class' at Michael's......I would sign up immediately!

Well, I looked at your photos and your colors look great to me - seems like you have really good variation. Some people, in my opinion, look like all their colors are from the Wilton starter kit (which is fine - I just think experience is the key to mastering this).

I sometimes feel limited by the project I'm working on. Maybe you could make a batch or two of BC and just sit down and mix a bunch of different colors just for practice and experimentation.

I'd try buying a book at an art store about mixing colors. Or maybe there's some good info on the internet.

I looked, too, and think your colors look fine. As for subtle variations and eye popping colors-just practice. Go slow when adding color, and give the tints time to "bloom". I don't know if it's my eyes, or the actual color, but when I wait a few minutes, I'm often a better judge of the true color. I also find it helpful to have a comparison color-a paint color chart is great for this!
