I've been asked to do a grooms cake for a friends wedding... My husband and him work together (they are both in the navy) and they also play ball on the Navy softball league (DH is pitcher, Groom is Catcher). Groom likes chocolate covered strawberries and so I though it would be cool to make a cake with Tuxedo Strawberries flowing out of a Catchers Mitt... so my question is how would you go about making a Catchers Mitt out of Fondant? Would you do it all in fondant or do the base in fondant and then pipe the details (lacing/letters/etc.) in royal Icing?
TIA!
Lybby

I did a mini mitt for a baby shower cake, fondant and just hand molded. I dried it in a bowl with just a slight curve to it. Made the lacing by painting them on with petal dust and alcohol but you could do them with fondant as well.

That cake is so cute. It's funny, because I won a catcher's mitt mold this weekend at a cake show, and didn't know how to use it. Thanks for the idea!
